I really admire Ian Somerhalder of The Vampire Diaries and Lost. And not just because he is a good-looking bloke. Unlike most celebs (who are way too shallow, in my opinion) Ian has proved what a real star he is. He is a wonderful human being. Pretty awesome, in fact.
He is passionate about matters close to my heart - animal welfare and environmental issues. He is working hard to make a difference, to change the world for the better - for everyone. To raise awareness of these issues which, though some may not care to think about, actually affect each and everyone of us.
We have to stop and think about the future, about what our actions (some very selfish) are doing to this beautiful planet of ours. I know some people don't actually want to believe that time is running out for our beautiful Mother Gaia but I'm afraid it is. Our planet is changing at a remarkably fast rate, and really can't take the strain anymore.
It also appalls me that cases of animal abuse seems to have escalated over the last few years. I don't know whether it really has, or it's because there is more out there for us to see via the internet, etc,
How anyone can harm an animal is beyond me. Animals have feelings, emotions and souls. They deserve respect and the chance to live a full and happy life on this planet too. Why must they suffer for the actions of some very stupid, arrogant and selfish humans beings? Why must they constantly be abused? And why doesn't everyone stop and notice these issues?
I know not everyone is the same, but please think about the future. Your future, your children's future, your grandchildren's, etc. And don't forget your pets, if you have any, and all future generations of the other animals living and breathing on this planet.
Ian Somerhalder has done an amazing thing in setting up the Ian Somerhalder Foundation. It began a year ago, on Ian's birthday. Now he wants us all to help him celebrate by spreading the word and by donating to his wonderful cause instead of sending him gifts. This is the gift he really wants. Do it for him, for yourself, for everyone.
And if you can't afford it, at least help spread the word.
